London – A temporary restaurant that launched during the London Design Festival has found a permanent home at Portobello Dock. The Moveable Kitchen, created by chefs Stevie Parle and Joseph Trivelli, originally launched as a pop-up super-club that toured various locations including Tom Dixon’s Dock Kitchen.
During London Design week last year, the restaurant hosted a series of exhibitions, pop-up shops and indoor and outdoor installations, presented in over 40,000 square feet of space.
The menu is inspired by the two chefs’ journeys around the world and will change on a daily basis. Dishes might include soup made of lentils, pancetta, swiss chard, cream and nutmeg, or raw violette artichokes served with bottarga.
Originally a pop-up, the Moveable Kitchen typifies the growing trend for retailers and restaurants to forgo the focus group and test new concepts within temporary locations. This beta-retailing concept is explored in more depth in our recent Beyond Retail trend report.
