New York – Ostwald Helgason made its debut at Milk Made studios for New York Fashion Week, inspired by a 19th-century Antarctic race between Britain and Norway.
Designers Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason developed a modern design aesthetic for the show, using multi-coloured nautical stripes, sportswear details and stiffened fabrics. Flared silk skirts were paired with sweaters adorned with sea monster motifs that referenced vintage maps and Nordic seafaring tales.
The Ostwald Helgason collection is in keeping with our Modern Mythology design direction. Designers are increasingly referencing mythology, ancient cultures and symbols to tell a story. But this duo added a fresh layer by incorporating these references into contemporary sportswear and tailored garments.
