Manila – Nike has created a running track that lets runners race against their own avatar.
Unlimited Stadium projects a virtual version of each runner onto LED screens, encouraging participants to race their avatars around the sports shoe-shaped track as they complete time and distance-based challenges.
The virtual athlete, which sets its pace according to the runner’s previous lap, increases in size as it picks up speed, providing a visual aid that inspires participants to continually better their time.
‘The Unlimited Stadium is designed to encourage people to push beyond their limits, and to celebrate the spirit of doing more than what you thought was ever possible,’ Bulbul Khera, senior director for marketing at Nike Southeast Asia, told Lifestyle Inquirer.
This is not the first time Nike has combined the physical and digital worlds in order to optimise the consumer experience, having already created Pro Genius, an interactive sports app that challenges athletes both physically and cognitively.
In the vein of The Optimised Self brands are providing services that accelerate the rate of self-improvement.
