Bright future: Designers give Kenzo an edge

06 : 10 : 2011 Streetwear : Carol Lim : Humberto Leon

Paris – The topic of designer musical chairs at luxury fashion houses this season has taken on a new energy with the appointment of retailers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of New York store Opening Ceremony at Kenzo.

The pair, known for their edgy styling and collaborative designer boutiques in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo, showed an urban-inspired, colourful collection of sportswear pieces for the LVMH-owned fashion brand at Paris fashion week. The collection focused on rich primary colours with block prints on jersey dresses, zip-detail anoraks and panelled contrast wrap skirts and jackets. Mesh overlay on visors and bucket bags provided a streetwear edge for the luxury collection, which is being repositioned to sell at a price point designed to attract a new youthful customer.

This progressive approach to rebranding a luxury house is impressive and signals a future in which design creatives will be found from many walks of life. As work becomes play LS:N Global is reminded of our Fun and Functionality design direction.
