Shanghai – The latest venture from chef Jason Atherton, The Commune Social restaurant in the Jing’an district of Shanghai, celebrates communal eating with its tapas menu and layout of interconnected rooms.
The restaurant has four bars, where diners can experience different courses and the social side of dining. Designed by Shanghai-based firm Neri&Hu, the restaurant is partitioned into four areas – a tapas bar, a dining room, a dessert bar and a rooftop cocktail bar – each serving a designated menu for that room.
The design of each room is different, yet in harmony with the overall space, and evocative of the meal being eaten. Diners are encouraged to move through the rooms, so that they end the night in the all-white dessert bar.
