Sole trader: Nike pop-up store is to the point

16 : 12 : 2012 Nike : Nike Fuelband : Brooklyn Nets

Brooklyn – Nike has opened Pivot Point, a pop-up store that offers individual appointments for customers to design one-off footwear.

The brand celebrated the 30th anniversary of its Nike Air Force 1 sneakers with a store at the Barclays Center, the new arena that is hosting its first Brooklyn Nets basketball season.

The look of the store emphasises the bespoke service on offer, with craftsmen’s tools, a rainbow-coloured range of soles and shoelaces, and sample leather swatches on display. The store also offers Nike+ FuelBands and the new Nike Lunar Force 1, a version of the Air Force 1 with a more futuristic design and materials.

Nike is the latest footwear brand to create an in-store experience that hearkens back to a traditional shoemaker’s workshop, while retaining contemporary visual cues. Read our Innovate on the Puma Creative Factory for more on why this strategy appeals to creative young consumers.
