Junk rating: Grown-up gourmet truck wins Zagat award

London – Tim Zagat, co-founder of review brand Zagat, announced the winners of its annual awards for the best restaurants in the British capital this morning. Insights from the results, which reflect the views of 9,583 surveyors eating 1.1m meals, include:

: 73% of complaints concern front-of-house issues

: 36% of diners have downloaded restaurant-related apps to their smartphones

: 23% follow restaurants through social media

: 40% think that London’s dining scene is better than a year ago, compared with 3% who think it is worse – the largest discrepancy ever

: 25% of diners eat at gourmet food trucks

The most noteworthy winner is Pitt Cue, the gourmet truck and bourbon bar that began in Peckham, which won the award for best newcomer. When Tim Zagat asked if he could eat lunch there, the Pitt Cue team reminded him he would have to queue. ‘We even make our parents queue up,’ said co-founder Jamie Berger. LS:N Global predicted the rise of Gourmet Junk in 2011.
