London – As No-Frills Affluent consumers pare down their weekly grocery shops to strict budgets, so are they re-evaluating their expenditure on less necessary – or, at least, less everyday – items. Tapping into this trend for consumers seeking greater value in the products they buy, The Conran Shop in London will this summer introduce a product range of entry-price design fit for the NFA consumer.
The ‘Well Considered’ collection, launching on 18 August, consists of well-designed, understated items of furniture that Conran Shop buyers reckon are essential for the modern home. Items include a reissued classic ‘Plank’ table by Ercol and a simple, white-lacquered bed.
The Conran Shop joins brands, such as British manufacturer/retailer SCP, that have created designs for a new, more price-conscious yet strongly design-savvy consumer. As we saw in Milan earlier this year, furniture manufacturers considering their market are being very realistic about their offerings during this downturn year.
