Combined realities

06 : 12 : 2016 Virtual Reality : VR : Art Basel 2016

Miami – An audiovisual installation by SoundCloud and Artsy transported visitors to a parallel digital world.

Collective Reality, curated by Elena Soboleva, curator of special projects at Artsy, was a collective virtual reality (VR) experience inside the Faena Art Dome that immersed guests in a 360-degree graphic projection.

Artworks by Rossin, Rafman and Satterwhite combined video elements such as motion tracking and avatar puppeteering with a musical soundscape by ABRA to take the viewer on a journey through a digital universe composed of abstract visual elements.

‘Given the challenge of curating VR artwork in a public setting, we were excited about the opportunity to extend the artwork by incorporating a dynamic musical collaboration to surround the audience and create a collective experience,’ says Soboleva.
