Homegrown: US designers create avant-garde lighting range

New York – The American market may not be known for its homegrown contemporary design, but at this year’s International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in New York, local designer Jason Miller introduced Roll & Hill, a collection of contemporary lighting designed by his fellow countrymen.

Launched in January this year, the label offers new versions of Miller’s ubiquitous ceramic ‘Superordinate Antler Chandelier’, as well as creative work from independent designers such as Lindsey Adams Adelman, Paul Loebach and Rich Brilliant Willing.

Can such a high-end label survive in the US market? Retailers are already in place, including several Design Within Reach locations, New York’s The Future Perfect, and Los Angeles’ Twentieth art and design. The challenge now is to appeal to the country’s appetite for avant-garde lighting.

LS:N Global is covering ICFF until Wednesday. Look out for a forthcoming full review in our Micro Market section, in which we will explore market changes in depth.
