Warsaw – Ikea has opened a space for locals to host their own lunch and dinner parties.

  • Ikea has fully furnished two floors of a flat and invited locals to use it as a home from home
  • Anyone can hire the eight- or 16-seat spaces free online in a city where space is at a premium

The kitchens and child’s area are entirely furnished with Ikea products, stocked with everything you need to cook, eat and spend time with friends and family. Guests bring their own ingredients and use the equipment, spices and Ikea recipe book to cook for friends and family.

Ikea hopes to inspire furnishing solutions in this home from home, with all products shoppable from the retailer’s website. In place of a guestbook, visitors are invited to use social media to share stories of how they used the space, many taking to Instagram using the hashtag #kuchniaspotkan, which translates as ‘kitchen encounters’.

‘Our mission was to create an open space for all those who want to meet with family and friends at a common table,’ Małgorzata Jezierska, a spokesperson for Ikea Retail in Poland, told LS:N Global. The Swedish furniture retailer continues to trial new ways to engage with its customers and establish places for discussion and co-creation such as the launch of Ikea: Space 10.
