South Korea – Korean designer Jaebeom Jeong of Stonenwater Studio has created a flat-pack chair, the Fake Shaker, that consists of hand-crafted wooden pieces to be assembled at home.
The Fake Shaker kit comprises wooden elements crafted from beach, rose, walnut and oak, an instruction manual and a canvas or hemp seat. The employment of a traditional joint technique means no further materials are necessary for assembly.
A modern take on the 18th-century techniques used by the Shakers, the Fake Shaker is a great example of a Revivalist design that celebrates traditional craftsmanship. Find out more by reading our Revivalism macrotrend.
