London – Japanese design studio Nendo will unveil its Scatter Shelf unit at the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in London during the Frieze Art Fair in October.
The unit features 5mm black acrylic shelves stacked in three layers, forming a grid. When viewed from the front, objects on the shelves look like they are trapped in a spider’s web, according to Nendo.
And when viewed at an angle the unit’s glossy face creates a series of reflections and surface shine that make the opaque acrylic appear transparent, producing a kaleidoscopic effect, says Nendo.
Clean lines and the careful use of materials suggest fluency and simplicity and indicate a renewed shift towards leanness and cultural decluttering, as seen in the Minimal Luxury design direction. For more on similar design aesthetics, read about Nendo in our Portfolio section.
