Is Marsa Al Saadiyat the world’s most ambitious luxury residential development? Cookson Adventures turns The Odyssey into a superyacht travel experience and why British travellers are investing more in pre-holiday beauty rituals.

UAE – Aldar, Abu Dhabi’s leading real estate developer, has unveiled Marsa Al Saadiyat – the final phase of Saadiyat Island, one of the most ambitious luxury residential developments in the region.

With a gross development value of £20.45bn ($27bn, €24bn), the project will add a waterfront district to the island which is already home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Guggenheim. Spanning 6.4m square metres and stretching along 8km of coastline, Marsa Al Saadiyat will house more than 58,000 residents including private mansions, villas, waterfront apartments and branded residences. Sales will begin in the second half of 2026, with infrastructure works starting in Q3.

The development signals how the next generation of luxury destinations are being designed around walkability, cultural density and active living. The Future Laboratory and Together Group’s latest New Codes of Luxury report unpacks how the branded residences market has tripled in a decade and is projected to nearly double again by 2035, signalling a fundamental shift in how luxury brands build relationships with high-net-worth buyers.

Strategic opportunity

Develop a placemaking strategy that goes beyond the residence itself – the luxury developments winning long-term loyalty are those that build a cultural ecosystem and community platform around the property, not just within it

Cookson Adventures turns myth into an entertainment-led voyage

Greece – Cookson Adventures is turning Homer’s The Odyssey into a £1.9m ($2.5m, €2.2m) seven-day super-yacht experience for up to 12 guests, blending immersive theatre, interactive storytelling and marine conservation across the Greek islands.

Launching in summer 2026 alongside Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of the ancient Greek story, the voyage begins before arrival with an in-flight audio introduction. Guests then move through staged encounters inspired by the epic, including a Lotus Eaters beach gathering, an operatic Sirens dinner, a 500-drone Cyclops display and a kayak journey through a cave reimagined as the Underworld.

Actors disguised as crew sustain the narrative, while a digital companion presents moral dilemmas that assess qualities including leadership, bravery, loyalty and wit.

Luxury travel is moving from passive sightseeing towards participatory, story-led transformation, where entertainment transforms the traveller into an active character rather than an observer within the destination.

Strategic opportunity

Travel operators should explore building campaigns, products and services around live storytelling, staged encounters and interactive experiences that let customers participate in the entertainment

Stat: Pre-holiday beauty spend signals rise of ritual-led consumption

UK – British travellers are investing more in pre-holiday beauty rituals, with new research revealing an average spend of £158 ($213, €184) on products and treatments this summer, up by 27% – from £124 ($167, €144) – since 2024.

Consumers are allocating £74 ($100, €86) to beauty products and £83 ($112, €97) to treatments, with two in five (40%) planning to spend more on products they haven’t tried before. From SPF and after sun to teeth whitening and grooming treatments, people are using beauty purchases to mark a transition into leisure mode.

Men are increasingly embracing pre-holiday beauty and are spending more than women on products: £78 ($105, €91) compared with £71 ($96, €83). They are nearly matching women’s treatment spend – £80 ($108, €93) compared with £86 ($116, €100). The pre-holiday glow-up is becoming widespread, with 76% of men and 82% of women investing in preparation before travelling.

These findings point to a broader shift in beauty consumption, where preparation and anticipation are becoming part of the experience. For beauty businesses, the opportunity is to design products and formats that deliver moments of indulgence, exploration and self-care.

The trend reflects insights from our Bougie Basics report, which explores how elevated personal care products are tapping into little treat culture. It also aligns with Future Forecast 2026: Beauty, which identified miniature editions as evolving beyond travel essentials into accessible entry points for discovery and experimentation within the industry.

Strategic opportunity

Design travel-sized SPF, after-sun and grooming ranges that meet consumers in the pre-holiday mindset – when they are most primed to experiment with new brands and spend more than they would at any other point in the year
