Broad steps

29 : 09 : 2016 Adidas : Pharrell : New Bricolage Living

Global – Adidas has joined forces with artist Pharrell Williams to create a collection that celebrates diversity.

  • Hu comprises 14 garments and five styles of footwear
  • The brightly coloured shoes feature slogans such as Human Being and Hu Race

Each Hu collection will focus on a specific community to celebrate diversity around the world.

The first Hu range features trainers in a variety of bold colours including core black, scarlet and sharp blue, and is inspired by the clothing and culture of Native Americans from North Dakota.

‘Hu is about the recognition and celebration of different colours, spirituality and cultures,’ Pharrell told WWD. ‘The point is to highlight the differences so that people realise that, despite all of those differences, we are all basically the same.’

The artist has been instrumental in spearheading new sustainable initiatives in the fashion industry. His fabric company Bionic Yarn creates materials from recycled plastic bottles, which are used in his Adidas Originals range.

The Big Picture

Identity used to be something that you were born with, but consumers are increasingly realising that identity is something that can be collected, constructed and arranged. To find out more, see our New Bricolage Living macrotrend.
