Buddy Service by Icelandair, Reykjavik

Reykjavik – Icelandair is inviting passengers travelling from America to Europe to buddy up with its employees during their stopover.

  • Icelandair employees are offering to show passengers their favourite spots for a day, to help them get the most out of their stay
  • The campaign is promoting the airline’s Stopover scheme, letting passengers extend their time in Iceland without additional charges

It seems everyone at the airline is involved with the scheme. Even Icelandair CEO Birkir Hólm Gudnason is willing to buddy up, while the airline’s PR and marketing representative for The Netherlands and Belgium Eline Ruigrok is offering to take someone on a cultural tour of Reykjavik.

From food buddies to health and nature buddies, there is someone at Icelandair for every kind of holiday, as the airline looks to show its human side by inviting customers to spend time with the people behind the brand.

To request a buddy, passengers simply say what kind of adventure they are looking for and the dates of their stay, and the airline will let them know if they have been successful within 72 hours. Icelandair’s Stopover Buddy Service will continue until 30 April 2016.

The Big Picture

The digital age has lifted the curtain on brands, which must be prepared to show themselves, warts and all, to connect with consumers who have become immune to marketing tropes. Find out more in our Anti-authenticity Marketing macrotrend.
