Munich – Forget the ugly air fresheners that used to hang from your rear view mirror. For its new 7 Series, BMW is aiming to create a more bespoke and sensory experience.
For the Ambient Air package, BMW enlisted the help of its new scent specialist Annabelle Kanzow-Coffinet. The passengers or driver can blend the aromas in the vehicle using a programmable system that enables them to select each scent in three different intensities.
‘There is a trend towards making things more sensual and emotional,’ Annabelle Kanzow-Coffinet told Frame magazine. ‘The fragrances had to be unisex and universal.’
The Ambient Air package is part of a move towards establishing a greater level of wellbeing for passengers and drivers. The interior also features six dimmable light displays that can be altered to reflect the mood of the car’s occupants.
The Big Picture: Consumers expect experiences and products to stimulate their senses more than ever before. This car will appeal to luxurians who demand a high level of customisation in products.
