Space-saver: Ikea designs for urban Millennials

18 : 03 : 2014 Ikea : On The Move Collection : Limited Edition

Stockholm – The new Ikea PS 2014 collection features furniture and home decorations that are designed to fit in the tiny rental properties where many young city dwellers now live.

The limited-edition, 51-piece On the Move collection was inspired by the fact that more and more people are living in cities as renters. As a result, Ikea designed the furniture so that is easy to move – no nailing to the wall – and much of it is multipurpose.

‘The IKEA PS 2014 collection is all about living here and now. Mobile and multi-functional, it’s here to help you make the most of life at home,’ says the company. ‘No matter if that home is somewhere you’re just crashing for a while or somewhere you’ll stay put.’

Appealing to the design-minded but also to cash-poor Millennials, Ikea’s collection also references a design trend we spotted at Maison et Objet 2014, Lean In, which featured products by designers that were mobile and not affixed to walls.
