Milan – Netherlands-based Studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters has created storage boxes that block out everyday noise.
Consumers are looking to escape the hectic and hyper-connected world of today, and are turning towards brands and products that offer them downtime or a moment of quiet, as we reported in our The New Sublimity macrotrend.
Called Cloud Boxes, the pieces are made from semi-transparent latex and available in small, medium and large. They are designed to be fitted over a range of objects and appliances.
With their cloud-like and hazy appearance, they do not simply mute audio noise but block out visual noise too, covering up harsh and overbearing designs and creating a softer aesthetic.
Cloud Boxes was shown at Milan Design Week on 9–14 April 2013. For more on projects shown at Milan, read our Seed section and our forthcoming Milan Review.
