London – Designers Thierry Jeannot and Gisela Stiegler have collaborated on an exhibition called Enlightened Waste as part of the London Design Festival.
The show, which will take place later this month at Marion Friedmann Gallery, will explore preconceptions of luxury product design with a range of items constructed from waste materials.
Thierry Jeannot aims to ‘disturb our preconceptions and clichés about the value of materials’ by treating polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic as a precious material during his design and manufacturing process. His lighting installation will explore adding value to unconventional, sustainable materials while challenging the perception of luxury products.
Enlightened Waste marks the first time that the designers, who are from Mexico City and Vienna, have exhibited in the UK.
The show will be part of the festival’s Brompton Design District.
LS:N Global will be reporting on events throughout London Design Festival 2011 in our Seed and Shows sections.
