Light touch: Daniel Rybakken’s new lamps

Milan – The new lights Daniel Rybakken is presenting at the Salone Satellite and Spazio Rosanna Orlandi in Milan this week reflect his approach: to simplify the lights we use and improve the way we experience them.

The Light Tray is a series of white powder-coated aluminium trays with bulbs, covered by hand-blown cones of translucent grey-green and amber glass. These are moveable, so the user can easily manage the colour and intensity of light from their Light Tray.

The Counterbalance is a wall-mounted, counterbalanced light with a 2m reach, whose lamp revolves 360-degrees thanks to its original neodymium magnet hinge, designed by Rybakken. The Counterbalance’s simplicity owes its roots to Rybakken’s appreciation of graphic design and 2D perspective.

‘It’s not a tube, it’s a line,’ he tells LS:N Global. ‘It’s not a counterweight, it’s a circle.’
