Body oddities: Students picture the future

15 : 04 : 2011 Textile Futures : Future Materials : Milan

Milan – Does your skin tingle or your flesh creep at the thought of augmented reality (AR) skin, biological jewellery or biotechnological skin? These and other quizzical propositions are at the heart of Textile Futures, an exploratory exhibition showing in a warehouse in Milan’s Ventura Lambrate area this week.

Design Fictions by Natsai Chieza Design Fictions by Natsai Chieza

Curated by LS:N Global’s former design editor and current Central Saint Martins (CSM) tutor Caroline Till, the exhibition, also called Textile Futures, shows off the creativity and imagination of the students on the course of the same name at London’s CSM.

Natsai Chieza considers how textiles and skin might merge in the future through rubber and synthetic body coverings. By engaging with Jenny Lee’s interactive exhibit, viewers see how their faces might look in an AR future. In her Nano Cookbook, Priyanka Gaitonde explains how nano-technology could change our world in a visually compelling cookbook.

LS:N Global will be presenting more thought-provoking research, and tangible products from Milan throughout this week.
