CES 2015: The camera that lets you know who is in your home

09 : 01 : 2015 Netatmo : Security : Connected Home

Las Vegas – French connected products company Netatmo has released its first home security device, a camera that can tell the difference between a visitor and an intruder.

Welcome, unveiled this week at 2015 International CES, uses facial recognition technology to identify who is coming in and out of its user’s home. Once it has detected movement, the device sends a short notification to its owner’s smartphone letting him or her know that someone has entered the building.

If the camera recognises the person it will identify him or her by name – it can tell parents when their children are home from school, for example. If it doesn’t, it will alert its owner that a stranger is in the house. Using the Welcome app, users can check the camera’s video feed to see if everything is as it should be. It even works in the dark, thanks to infrared night vision technology.

'‘We looked into the security market and we found that most of the products were not very smart,’ Fred Potter, CEO of Netatmo, tells LS:N Global. ‘Welcome gives you reassurance without surveillance.’
