London – The founders of the ever-popular Burger & Lobster restaurants have launched a new venture, Beast, which has the same surf and turf theme but with a Baroque twist.
At Beast, there is no menu – only a £75 ($126, €92) three-course meal that includes Norwegian Red King Crab – crabs that weigh in at 2.5kg or more – and prime Nebraskan ribeye steak, served on or off the bone. The stark yet ornate menu is reflected in the interiors by Design LSM: it is a banquet hall that fit for Hogwarts.
Three long tables that seat 40, with large candelabras and pillar candles perched precariously overhead, all give the semblance of a mediaeval feast. Both beasts are on full display – big bone-in cuts hanging from glass refrigerators sit beside live crabs. Even the drinks are served feudal-style, with the house wine taken from large vats.
Ripping into a giant crab leg and a steak big enough for sharing is sure to bring out the beast in many. With Game of Thrones gripping the world, we are seeing a proliferation of hospitality offers inspired by a bygone primal age.
