Niiza City, Japan – From cashiers’ desks to an immersive financial shop, a new branch of Sugamo Shinkin Bank redefines the bank as an experiential space. The pixel-inspired interior, designed by Emmanuelle Moureaux, uses different colours rather than complicated signage to signify different areas – pink for the waiting room, for instance, and blue for meeting spaces.
While most banking is now possible online or over the phone, the physical bank is getting an overhaul, with fresh designs and marketing efforts to appeal to customers. The result is a more emotional, relaxing environment in which to sort out the standing orders from the pay-in slips.
