Germany – Designers Miriam Aust and Sebastian Amelung have re-imagined the possibilities of concrete, creating lightweight, paper-like lamps from it.
Their project, Like Paper, is a collection of hanging pendant lamps, made from concrete, yet with the aesthetic of crumpled, crinkled and flexible paper.
The lamps took a year and a half to complete following a series of experiments. Their creators adapted a rotation-moulding method to produce extremely smooth and delicate looking lamps, each weighing just over a pound. With a relatively large thickness, the lamps look heavier than they are.
