Taste test: Drinks part of the furniture at LDF

London – Young Sardinian tastemaker Jacopo Sarzi gave the work of designers Catherine Aitken, Eva Malschaert and Pia Wüstenberg a synaesthetic dimension at the Understory exhibition at last month’s London Design Festival 2012.

To accompany each furniture piece, Sarzi created a corresponding drink that was consumed using a specially made tool. The aim was to push visitors beyond their comfort zones and engage their senses of touch and taste.

His gloopy chocolate Brush concoction related to Malschaert’s work and was consumed with the help of a wooden spatula. The Tack vegetable and peaty whisky broth inspired by Aitken’s tables required the visitor to lift vegetables out of the liquid on a stick before drinking.

‘I wanted to emphasise how we view design by creating a multi-sensory experience surrounding each work,’ Sarzi tells LS:N Global.
