London – Swedish design studio Folkform has collaborated with Czech designer Maxim Vel?ovsky to produce a series of crystal glass vases that combine machine-made and ancient craft techniques.
The project was inspired by the handicraft methods in use in an old Czech glassworks factory. Folkform explored the fusion of these processes with modern mechanical production techniques.
‘The new pieces explore the collision between mass-produced and hand-made articles, where craft meets industry, the machine meets the hand,’ says Folkform.
The vases were first exhibited earlier this year as part of the Industrial Intervention exhibition in Stockholm. Selected pieces will be on show as part of the Swedish Design Goes London exhibition during the London Design Festival.
