Cambridge, MA – Designers E Roon Kang and Richard The have created a new visual identity for research group MIT Media Lab.
The designers, both MIT Media Lab graduates, have produced a flexible logo that can be altered to give each member of the Media Lab a unique variation on its basic design.
The design features three spotlights that cast intersecting coloured beams, representing the collaborative culture of the Media Lab. The beams can be organised into 40,000 different shapes and 12 colour combinations using a customised algorithm. It will provide enough variations to give each Media Lab member his or her own logo for the next 25 years.
