London – Design duo Meadham Kirchhoff celebrated feminism in their show I Am a Lie that Tells the Truth at London Fashion Week.

In a pagan-style, folklore-themed collection, the designers, who are known for their rebellious attitude and poetic sensibility, threw a range of controversial feminine references together. These ranged from a nod to Chanel’s bouclé tweeds to a twisted take on school uniforms and peasant costumes. Hand embroidery featured for heavily textured wools and knits, while the duo’s signature meticulous unfinishing was evident across the collection.

‘It’s about feminism. There is an element of subverting bourgeois symbols,’ says Ed Meadham. ‘I grew up with Courtney Love and Riot Grrrls. And I’ve been depressed. The collection is a manifestation of a huge emotional void,’ he adds.

Meadham Kirchhoff won the 2011 Fashion Forward sponsorship award from Coutts, one of three labels the bank is sponsoring this season.

LS:N Global has noted how their collection this season is in line with our upcoming Trend Briefing focus on Revivalism.
