Tokyo – Vending machines have long been established in Japanese retailing. But now a new device combines vending with a large touchscreen interface. The aCure machine at Tokyo’s Shinagawa Station is the result of a collaboration between consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung and soft drinks brand Coca-Cola.
A 46in touchscreen shows people what drinks are available to buy. Customers can choose their drink by pressing the digital image on the screen and then pay for it as they would with a traditional vending machine.
This automated yet interactive retailing method is explored further in our recent Retail Futures Report, now available to buy in The Future Laboratory’s online shop.
