Milan – Canadian designer Omer Abel and design and manufacturing house BOCCI will reveal a series of chandeliers that draw on industrial strength and heritage at Milan Design Week.
The ‘28 Series’ chandelier is made using a special glass-blowing technique in which air is repeatedly blown in and sucked out of an intermittently heated and cooled piece of glass.
‘If you can blow air into glass and achieve astonishing results, it follows that you should be able to suck air out too and achieve equally interesting form,’ says Abel.
Halogen/LED lighting nodes are then placed inside the blown glass pendants, arranged in hexagonal chandeliers of differing lengths.
LS:N Global will be reporting from Salone Internazionale del Mobile and will be publishing information about the top exhibitions, products and trends throughout the week.
