Lavezzola, Italy – Frozen food specialist Surgital has opened a new testing and tasting hall at its north Italian headquarters.

The 150m-square-metre hall, called the De Gusto room – gusto is Italian for ‘taste’ – features an open plan kitchen and seating.

Created to show customers such as restaurateurs and resellers the quality and versatility of the 25-year-old company’s products, the design accents are on simple lines and natural materials.

Above the unadorned cement floor, the kitchen is presented as a cube, walled in with grey-veined white marble. Round this are simple, long oak tables – including a ‘front row/chef’s table’ row, and steel and oak chairs.

The simplicity of the design reflects a similar aesthetic to the one seen in the new Dos Palillos restaurant in Berlin, where the focus is also firmly on the food.
