Each of the models was then used to create plaster moulds from which a series of jugs, bowls and mugs were created.
The exterior surface of the pieces in the collection has a raw, unpolished, almost primitive aesthetic not typically associated with fine bone china. But on the inside the surface has been glazed and refined.
‘It was a conscious decision to stop the carving at an early stage of the process to capture the physicality of solid plaster and its similarity to a block of natural stone,’ Lamb tells LS:N Global. ‘In doing so, I highlight both the rawness of stonemasonry and the finesse required to carve intricate details such as a mug handle or the spout of a jug.’
Lamb’s collection will be launched at the forthcoming London Design Festival.
