Tokyo – American designer Louie Rigano has hand-crafted a collection of teapots that combines the traditional art of potting and mass-produced tableware.
Inspired by a recent residency in Japan, the designer’s Teapot/cup collection is made up of contrasting traditional and modern textures. The body of the pots and cups are made of hand-thrown clay, while oak handles and lids, which also serve as cups, are machine-cut.
The clay bodies have been left unglazed, emitting rustic, earthy tones and an aged aesthetic that alters as the teapot is used over time, a quality highly sought-after in antique teapots.
As LS:N Global has highlighted recently, Revivalism is a growing trend in which designers and brands are practising traditional craft with contemporary design.
