Bangkok, Thailand – For his 2012 MA in product design at Edinburgh College of Art, designer Praewpilin Sirichaimanus created a series of vessels for storing mementos from loved ones who have died.
The collection, Ritual of Remembrance, features a set of containers made from materials inspired by the four elements – earth, wind, fire and water. Sirichaimanus used stone, gold and other minerals to create memorials for the departed.
‘These containers are intended to be one medium in the healing process,’ says the designer. ‘They function as a memorial shrine, holding a memento and encouraging us to remember our loved one.’
The use of raw materials and simple forms is evocative of our Elemental trend, spotted at Milan’s 2013 Salone Internazionale del Mobile.
