Wildlands Documentary trailer by Ubisoft, Paris

Paris – Ubisoft is releasing a film that introduces the real-life stories behind its Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands game.

  • The film, Wildlands, will be released on 6 March 2017
  • Directed by Colin Offland, the documentary introduces key figures from the South American cocaine trade

The feature-length film will introduce key figures from the Bolivian drug trade in South America around which the game’s fictional narrative has been created. The documentary is presented by author Rusty Young, known for his book Marching Powder, which documents the true story of convicted drug smuggler Thomas McFadden, who spent time in a Bolivian prison.

Travelling through Bolivia, Colombia and North America, Young discusses the South American cocaine trade with figures on both sides of the law – from coca farmers to Special Forces soldiers dedicated to fighting the illegal drug trade to George Jung, ‘the man known for hooking North America on cocaine’.

The game is the latest instalment in the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon series and features players fighting as part of the Ghosts, an elite special operations unit deployed by the US government to tackle the Santa Blanca drugs cartel in Bolivia.

The Big Picture

Adding a didactic dimension to marketing campaigns allows brands like Ubisoft and Netflix to increase their reach and engage more fully with their audience, heralding the next phase of Faction Marketing in which the lines between reality and fiction become ever more blurred.
