Holon, Israel – Einat Kirschner, a recent industrial design graduate from the Holon Institute of Technology, has created a range of tableware from a new material, which she calls CeraMetal.
CeraMetal is a blend of metal powders and ceramics, which Kirschner used to create bowls and receptacles that have an organic, disruptive feel. The designer mixed ceramic material with two metals, with different effects. She mixed some with iron powder and then used magnets to create the sharp organic shapes that emerge. She also melted copper to give the ceramics an eroded appearance.
‘Although they seem fragile to the touch, these shapes are strong thanks to the ceramic material,’ explains Kirschner.
Her CeraMetal project is reminiscent of our Eruptia design direction, which examines how designers are using experimental production processes to create looks that seem to erupt from the product.
