London – Morphopolis, by architectural graduates Dan Walters and Ceri Williams, is a computer game that goes beneath the leaves, exploring a detailed, illustrated insect biosphere.
The aesthetic of Morphopolis is fantastical and intimate, featuring a lush, visually powerful micro-world in the undergrowth. The point-and-click play requires gamers to use their cursor to uncover hidden treasures and explore the environment to progress. The creators hand-drew the illustrations before scanning and painting them in with Photoshop. It combines 2D and 3D elements, creating a painterly digital effect.
Morphopolis applies a thoughtful painter’s touch to a genre that is normally computerised. This different aesthetic appeals to a generation of children that LS:N Global has labelled Generation I, who are unfazed by the digital world. To learn more, read our Gen I Tribe report.
