90s knees-up: Umbro and Palace get nostalgic

London – London-based Palace Skateboards has collaborated with football brand Umbro on a clothing range and promotional video that hark back to the 90s.

The line of football shirts directly references the England football team’s Italia ’90 World Cup kit and the accompanying video is a reenactment of people watching the tournament’s notorious England versus Germany game in the pub.

Shot on VHS, a Palace Skateboards trademark, the quality of the video is an instant reminder of 90s technology.

The film and the clothing line illustrate consumers’ increasing fondness for recalling recent decades, particularly those when technology was less advanced. For more on the revival of simpler technologies read our Netstalgia macrotrend.
