Munich – A new exhibition redefines the role of packaging in relation to jewellery.
The Micheko Gallery was founded with the mission of introducing contemporary art from Japan to a European audience. Its Jewellery Box exhibition is inspired by the sense of anticipation and excitement experienced when encountering a closed jewellery box, and celebrates the humble container as a crucial element of the overall experience.
Three artists were commissioned to create pieces that conveyed the notion of symbiosis between object and container. ‘The box should be for the jewellery what the frame is for a painting,’ the gallery explained in a statement.
Standout pieces from the exhibition include Takashi Kojima’s series of sculptural armatures, which are designed to hold multiple necklaces.
