Slumming it

29 : 06 : 2015 Melbourne : Boilermaker : Speakeasy Group

Melbourne – The Boilermaker takes centre stage at the Speakeasy Group’s latest venture.

  • Boilermaker House is the latest bar after Eau de Vie in Melbourne and Sydney, and The Roosevelt
  • Dedicated solely to pairing craft beer with premium whisky, cured meats and a selection of cheeses

A departure from the slick, golden-age aesthetic of its Eau de Vie bars, the Boilermaker gets down and dirty with a blue-collar classic.

An impressive collection of 700 whiskies and 12 rotating craft beers on tap has been paired with a menu of cured meats and a selection of cheeses.

‘We’re definitely seeing a trend for slumming it in a stylish way,’ Alice Lascelles, author of Ten Cocktails: The Art of Convivial Drinking, tells LS:N Global. ‘What was originally a drink for the blue-collar worker has found favour among drinkers looking for something refreshing that also packs a punch.’

The Big Picture: In our High-low Dining microtrend, we examine how opposite ends of the foodie spectrum are borrowing from each other to create a new category of premium casual dining.
