Milan – French designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec will unveil a new chair, created with Italian manufacturer Mattiazzi, at this year’s Milan Furniture Fair.
The Bouroullec brothers were drawn to Mattiazzi because of its sustainable approach to manufacturing. The family-owned company produces all its furniture with solar-powered machinery, using wood sourced from the area surrounding their factory in Udine, Italy.
The design of the Osso chair reflects this simplistic approach to manufacturing. The brothers’ intention was to let the wood – oak, maple or ash – become the focus of the piece. The wood has been sculpted and polished using sophisticated digitally controlled equipment, creating a sensual, tactile form.
LS:N Global will be attending Milan Design Week and will report from the shows. In the meantime, look out for our forthcoming Milan Design Week preview.
