New York – At Matter Gallery during New York Design Week, Swedish designer Hilda Hellström teamed up with Brooklyn lighting designer Bec Brittain to present a collaborative collection called BBxHH.
Brittain’s striking geometric lighting designs reference
architectural forms as well as Victorian balancing toys. They include customised brass
hardware in a variety of metallic finishes enclosing LED tube lighting.
Hellström is known for creating tactile surfaces from jesmonite, building up objects layer by layer in a box and then carving out their contours with a CNC milling machine. The resulting objects display marbleised patterns that are geological, but unlike anything seen in nature.
The two designers’ combined talents resulted in a colourful collection of objects that are both opulent and contemporary.
