Milan – Automotive brand Mini has applied its expertise in the efficient use of space to create an urban housing concept.

After tackling the future of urban mobility in its 2015 installation, Mini has turned its attention to improving the wellbeing and sense of community experienced by city dwellers.

Set up to represent one floor of a residential building, the main installation consists of four semi-separate apartments divided by a mobile wall of shelves that can be rotated to face either the private or communal area. By turning around the shelves, it is possible to share resources, such as the kitchen unit or sound system, with the rest of the community. The system offers a balance between promoting openness and protecting privacy.

Accompanying the architectural installation are various concepts for city living and interaction that offer flexible and easily personalised systems and time-saving services. Together they represent a holistic vision of a shared urban environment.
