Car culture: Lexus opens first luxury store

Tokyo – Luxury car brand Lexus has made its first foray into luxury retail with Intersect by Lexus. The space includes specially crafted products inspired by the car brand, as well as a bistro, a café and an exhibition space where a Lexus car and other artwork are on display.

The retail space is ‘somewhere between the home and the workplace’, says designer Masamichi Katayama and highlights the Japanese heritage of its location.

The softly lit interiors are created out of the same bamboo that is used in Lexus steering wheels, while the concept shop showcases Crafted for Lexus, a line of exclusive products create by Japanese designers. The products are inspired by the Lexus philosophy, ‘authenticity to be treasured’.

‘I believe Intersect is a place where Lexus can achieve real communication with people and the local community,’ says Akio Toyoda, president of Toyota Motor Corporation.
