Mexican fave: Diner creates hi-lo experience

20 : 05 : 2013 Boutique : Balanced Menu : Hotdog

Melbourne – If you fancy a cup of single-origin coffee in the morning, an organic takeaway Mexican hotdog for lunch and a bottle of Laurent-Perrier in the evening, Acland St Cantina has it covered.

This Australian Mexi-mart diner, takeaway and watering hole in Melbourne is a Juan of all trades, offering a range of services and products under one brand umbrella from 7:00am to 3:00am daily.

Described by bloggers as ‘a sexy gritty space’ that ‘presents a seductive Friday night proposition’, and a ‘trendy and casual’ place to have breakfast, Acland St Cantina succeeds because of its attractive styling, Cal-Mex cuisine and intriguing drink offers including boutique local beers, cava, tequila and hand-crafted Mexican mescal.

The menu balances health food favourites such as amaranth and heirloom beetroots with treats such as carne asada sandwiches and salted caramel ice cream churros tacos. Food ranges in price from A$5 to A$29 ($4.85–28, €3.80–22, £3.20–18.50), creating the sort of hi-lo experience valued by Just Not customers.
