Blood simple: Boccalatte extends body of work

06 : 03 : 2013 Tactile : Trunk Book : Boccalatte

Australia – Creative agency Boccalatte, based in New South Wales, has created the next edition of its Trunk Book series, with a volume entirely about blood.

The first book in the series was dedicated to hair and the agency plans to explore a particular aspect of the body in each book through its writing, art and photography. Volume two will explore the world of the fluid that keeps us alive.

Artists and writers from across the globe have contributed to the book, which details everything from murders, menstruation and sex, to vampires, fiction, poetry and even blood recipes.

‘The subjects we choose are contradictions,’ Boccalatte tells LS:N Global. ‘Blood is lovely in keeping us alive and not so good when it is splashed on the floor. In our recent bloody volume, we looked for the distortions and metaphors: the bruises, the blood lines and even Jackie Kennedy’s pink Chanel suit following JFK’s assassination.’

Since the books are designed to be touched and held as much as read, Boccalatte plans to have the cover embossed with bloody corpuscles and end plates of blood cells.

The project is self-funded, however, so Boccalatte is seeking donations to ensure that the book can be printed.
