Utrecht, The Netherlands – In densely populated urban environments, consumers are often exposed to all kinds of pollutants. Design duo Erik De Nijs and Tim Smit, better known as fashion label Nieuwe Heren, have created a multifunctional jacket that protects the wearer from toxic fumes.
The Aegis Parka contains a sensor that detects hazardous molecules in the air. If any pollution is detected, the sensor illuminates an LED embedded in the material, prompting the wearer to put on the built-in respirator to help them breathe fresh air.
In addition, the Aegis Parka is treated with a solution that cleanses the air as the wearer walks through the city.
Although not yet in production, the Aegis Parka could be a great solution for consumers living in heavily polluted towns and cities such as Lagos and Jiangsu.
