Amsterdam – Lager brand Heineken has created an online platform for open source innovation called the Heineken Ideas Brewery.
On the site, the company sets tasks for people to undertake and problems to solve. The current challenge is to submit ideas to make Heineken’s packaging more sustainable. By connecting through Facebook, people can vote for the best ideas. The winner of the competition will win $10,000 and will then work with Heineken to realise their concept.
At the launch of the project, Heineken created a live event where people could stream a video of Janne Kyttanen, creative director of product design agency Freedom of Creation, as he thought of an idea over a 48-hour period.
This is a great way for Heineken to engage an active online fan base while open sourcing its packaging. For more on how companies are launching platforms where their customers can create, read our Open Brands microtrend.
